Training Abstract

This Institute of Asset Management (IAM) Certificate Training is a structured and practical learning experience covering the core disciplines of asset management policy and strategy, lifecycle decision-making, risk management, information management, and the financial and business impacts of asset investment decisions. Through interactive presentations, industry case studies, real-world examples, and facilitated discussions, participants develop a comprehensive understanding of how to balance cost, risk, performance, and sustainability objectives to maximize value from assets. The training is designed to support candidates preparing for the IAM Certificate examination while equipping asset owners, operators, engineers, planners, and managers with practical knowledge and skills that can be directly applied to improve organizational decision-making, asset performance, service delivery, and asset management maturity. The training is aligned to the IAM Competences Framework, IAM Body of Knowledge, and ISO 55000 asset management standards, and will be delivered by experienced asset management practitioners who have successfully implemented asset frameworks, systems, and improvement initiatives across a wide range of asset-intensive organizations. 

IAM CERTIFIED INSTRUCTORS

Laith Alfaqih – PhD, PE, AMP, MIAM, CRL, SDRM North America Asset Management Lead, Stantec. Laith is a results-oriented asset management practitioner and endorsed trainer with over 24 years of professional experience helping public- and private-sector organizations improve how they manage, maintain, and invest in their infrastructure assets. He is a Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Asset Management Professional (AMP) [Institute of Asset Management (IAM)], Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) [Association of AM Professionals], and certified practitioner in Strategic Decision and Risk Management. His experience spans water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities, public works, municipalities, transportation agencies, aviation, and industrial sectors, where he has led multidisciplinary teams in designing and implementing risk-based, data-driven asset management programs that enhance organizational performance, strengthen infrastructure resilience, optimize investment decisions, and improve service outcomes. He has guided organizations at every stage of their asset management journey; from foundational program development through advanced maturity and ISO 55000 alignment; while helping clients strengthen governance, improve decision-making, and maximize the value derived from their assets. He is a published author, international speaker, and contributor to leading industry organizations, including the Institute of Asset Management, Water Research Foundation, and Transportation Research Board. 

Chris Senesi – Transportation Asset Management Lead, HDR. Chris brings over 17 years of asset management experience, supporting organizations through strategy development, implementation, and continuous improvement. He has supported over 50 organizations in advancing their asset management and infrastructure programs, providing comprehensive guidance and solutions across all stages of the asset life cycle – from acquisition and operations to maintenance, renewal, and disposal. As the leader of HDR’s Transportation Asset Management Practice, Chris specializes in business process improvements for infrastructure and the built environment across the U.S. and internationally. His cross-sector experience spans highways, transit, aviation, maritime, water and wastewater, power and energy, federal government, and public works. He has helped organizations implement asset and risk management programs at both the enterprise and project levels and has led efforts in maturity assessments, strategic planning, process modeling, information and knowledge management, procedural development, condition assessments, and digital asset management. Chris is an Institute of Asset Management (IAM) Endorsed Trainer and Assessor and is a PROSCI® Certified Change Practitioner. 

 Ahmet Ozman – P.E., MIAM  Strategic Asset Management Solution Leader, Black & Veatch Infrastructure Advisory. Ahmet is a civil engineer with more than 30 years of experience in the water industry, specializing in asset management, ISO550XX, strategy and program development, risk and resilience, business case evaluations, risk-based prioritization and capital improvement planning. Ahmet is a Member of the Institute of Asset Management (MIAM), is an endorsed assessor for asset management gap assessments and an endorsed trainer. Ahmet is currently serving on the IAM, USA Chapter Executive Committee, focused on branches/membership growth and knowledge development.
